Dr. Kevin Klassen

I have a Doctoral Degree in Psychology and a Masters Degree in Clinical Counselling and Marriage & Family Therapy.

My own personal struggle with treatment-resistant depression over 25 years ago is a big part of what led me to become a therapist. Good counselling support was essential to my healing and I knew I also wanted to help others experience similar transformation and change.

Since opening my counselling practice in 2009, I have accumulated over 20,000 clinical hours working with individuals and couples on a wide range of issues, including relationship / couples struggles, trauma and PTSD, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, men’s health, and others.

I have extensive training in a number of evidence-based therapies, including EMDR, EFT, AEDP, Gottman, and others. My education and experience allow me to tailor my approach to the unique needs of each person or couple I work with, because no two people are the same.

Fundamentally, I believe each person has inherent value and worth and deserves kindness and respect, regardless of what they’re struggling with. I also know it can be daunting to start counselling, whether for the first time or if you’ve had a negative experience in the past. It’s completely normal to feel nervous about this. My intent is to make you feel at ease while also helping you sort through the underlying issues you are dealing with.

Therapy can be hard work and often requires a lot of courage and persistence to dig deep to uncover root issues and allow change to occur. Over the years I’ve helped many people grow beyond feeling hopeless, stuck, and overwhelmed into a place where they are thriving, whether on their own or in their relationships. I feel incredibly privileged to help people navigate their mental health and relationship hardships.

I operate by the principle that if I’ve been able to discover the strengths and resilience within myself; to overcome adversity and to flourish – I know others can as well. I’m confident that if you choose to work with me, we can process the trauma and suffering that is keeping you stuck so you also can flourish.
